boke 暈け | Jasmine Gui
With illustrations by Jacqueline Lai
boke is a blue collection, a rainy collection, a walking collection.
These poems are about the journey of looking and not seeing exactly, but seeing enough. From the tiny logging towns and coastal ports in Malaysia, to the mega cities of Hong Kong and Singapore, the many places of home, family and history converge, tumbling and washing up against the rim of the poet’s “I”.
JASMINE GUI is a Singaporean raised in Suzhou and Hong Kong, currently based in Toronto. She is the founder of Project 40 Collective and managing editor at LooseLeaf magazine. She completed her M.A. at the University of Toronto in English, Diaspora and Transnational Studies, and has work published or forthcoming in Softblow, Panorama Journal, ricepaper, Hart House Review, (parenthetical) and more. She thinks in poetry, creative non-fiction, and comic panels.
