MAGGIE MONOLOGUES was previously produced for the stage, under the title Getting There: The Ariel Project, by Theatre After Secrets with the generous support of the London Fringe Theatre Festival. Suzanna has reworked the in-depth exploration of a young woman’s life into a collection of striking poems and illustrations that come together to make her debut chapbook.

my feet are large.

(my feet make me
self-conscious, just imagine.)

i went for miles.

one day i look back , they’re behind me
turned in on each other—complaining
children—their batteries ran out.
swallowed up by boots.

far too long i haul one shoe
steps after the other—fighting
gravity. i stop remembering
when i didn’t

feel the weight, still
they always made walking       away
look:     so damn simple.

i remember the quiet
walking up each step

the grid of the fire escape burning
window sills potting their flower
children, wind chimes, on guard
dogs guarding dreamcatchers.

so much wonderful clutter
latching onto the ends
to hold me inside my dress.
little meddlers.
